At-Home Beauty + Relaxation Ideas

We’re all at home right now and most of us are on a budget so I wanted to share my favorite at-home beauty and relaxation ideas. In true Lorena fashion these ideas and tips are super simple and things I do on the regular. Everything can be done on a budget but these are things that really help me feel calm and like I’ve done something for myself when I’m feeling overwhelmed.

First, I always clean the space I want to unwind in. It’s not possible to relax in a room full of chaos so if you’re feeling wound up, check your surroundings before you start your relaxation ritual. A way I do this is to sometimes play tricks on myself. I tell myself when I leave a room to grab one thing and put it away. Easy and achievable.

Grab a robe but not your "get ready" robe. Grab the special one that feels like you’re dressed up with no where to go. I love Mason Grey robes for this. They’re beautiful enough to wear in public and make me feel good - mine was probably my best purchase of 2020. It’s a piece I look forward to putting on and highly recommend.

Now that you've got your robe on, it's time to light a good candle. I love to light my Maison Louis Marie candle. I’m picky about scents and this candle has been my favorite for years. It’s subdued, gender neutral and understated but so pleasant. Whatever your preferred scent is, just be sure to light a candle. It sets the mood for relaxation.

To really get cozy, make your favorite coffee. I would HIGHLY recommend getting yourself a Nespresso machine. It will change your life. But making coffee at home not only helps me decompress but gets me excited for my day. I throughly enjoy my homemade vanilla coconut collagen coffee more than any coffee at a shop + it helps when I’m budgeting.

Since I can’t get manicures right now I’ve learned to do my own nails and my bank account has thanked me because I’d get them done every two weeks. It’s the only “self-care” thing I’d spend money on. These tools are a must have for perfect manis at home: the poppy manicure tool allows you to polish both hands with ease and the serum is so good for cuticles. Oiled up cuticles are my favorite look. For color, I do one coat of Essie ballet slippers and one coat of clear.

I’m not a huge bath girl but when I do, I want all the things: A lit candle, my kindle, a glass of wine and snacks or candy plus a good coconut milk bath soak. I’ll also do a hair mask and face mask while I’m in there because I REALLY enjoy multi-tasking when I’m in there (it helps me feel relaxed lol).

And speaking of skincare, doing my skincare routine REALLY makes me happy and it only takes about 10 minutes but truly helps me focus on something other than work. What I’m into lately: PCA Cleansing OilVital C Hydrating Anti-Aging Serum and the iS Clinical Youth Eye Complex. For makeup, anything Ilia I'm obsessed with!

Another quick thing I do is give myself a good faux tan and use everything from Lux Unfiltered. It’s the best fake tan I’ve ever seen on myself, the Bronzing Face Drops make you look sun kissed (add to moisturizer) and the Body Cream is UNREAL.

When I’m ready for bed, I make a nighttime collagen drink and have to have some white noise in the room - I used to use a fan but now I have my sound machine on my nightstand that I take everywhere I go. It relaxes me, drowns out outside noise or random sounds around the house and puts me into a deep sleep. I even got my fiancé hooked who never used one before. Tip: pack it up when you travel and you’ll thank me later.

That's what I do to relax when I'm at home so I hope you can take something from it and give yourself some down time before we officially kick off 2021!
